RYAN MECH (head Instructor)
In 2007, Ryan was deployed to Iraq in the National Army Guard. It was there that Ryan discovered submission wrestling: also known as grappling. During his deployment to Iraq, Ryan met an elite grappler from India who taught him some fundamentals. It was enough to make him fall in love with the art. In summer 2008, Ryan returned to his home in Tennessee. To much of his surprise, a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu school was just opening up in the town where he resided. Ryan immediately contacted them and enrolled in their academy. Due to the lack of interest in the small town where the academy was located it was forced to go out of business after just a year. Ryan wasn't willing to give up. Ryan received his blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2011. Shortly after earning his blue belt Ryan ended up moving back to his home town in Northern Michigan. In 2013/2014 he entered 2 MMA matches with the support and coaching skills of David Shepherd. Ryan lost his first match to a close and controversial decision and won his second fight by way of TKO. Shortly after this time, Ryan established his own club. Ryan continues to teach people locally in the Northern Michigan area and travels to many seminars per year to continue his knowledge. Ryan is a level 8 under Gokor and Gene Lebell after Max Bishop, his first Hayastan grappling coach, introduced him to Gokor. If you aren't familiar with Gokor or Gene go to Gokor.com for more info.
